The year was 2009 and Barb and Lloyd Fitzsimons were busy rearing happy, free and frolicking chickens. Ever keen to supply their contented chooks to a local store, they hit a stumbling block when it came to finding a supplier that matched their firmly held beliefs in ethical farming.

Bostock's Organic Chicken is 100% certified Organic and is farmed with passion! The chicks are nurtured from day one with homemade Organic feed containing Organic corn, Barley as will as Pulp from organic apples. The Chickens have the choice to come and go between the "french chalet" which is powered by state of the art solar panels, or roam and feed on the lush green organic grass.
No Antibiotics, Chemical free, GMO free, Stress free, Hormone free and Chlorine free!

At Moreish we source our pork from a co-op of New Zealand pig farmers who are 100% genuine free farmed. Born outdoors the piglets stay with their mums in their own individual shelters, with no sow crates in sight. They are then raised outdoors with the shelter of eco barns, furnished with straw to keep our wee piggies warm and comfy!
Our policy is minimal intervention, NO antibiotics, and NO growth hormones, (imported pork tends to be laced with this nasty stuff known as PST (Porcine Somatotropine). We just believe in happy healthy pigs, which in turn produces tasty, juicy healthy pork.
We then produce all our own bacon, sausages & ham products from our delicious free farmed pork. So you can trust that all the pork products you purchase from Moreish is from 100% free farmed happy pigs.
The Beef and Lamb
Roger & Linda Voss and their two Sons are the 3rd generation of Voss's to farm on their 200 acre organic farm in Kopane in the Manawatu, Mirawai Farms.
The converted to organic farming practices 6 years ago where they successfully integrate some of the more conventional practises with organic ones, providing plenty of nutritional grass to farm their animals on. They use an organic soil conditioning fertiliser system (Probitas), no chemical sprays and homeopathic treatments for most stock health issues. They have noticed better soil health and consequently better animal health since going organic.
They lamb almost pure Polled Dorset ewes in June/ July for the really early spring lamb's, the meat the lambs produce has a beautiful fresh flavour and great meaty yield with very little fat.
They rear most of their Hereford cross and Angus cross calves on nurse cows and then they are weaned on to quality pasture, with baleage and hay in the winter and brassica in the late summer, all grown on Mirawai Farms.
Once the beef and lamb arrives at Moreish, we hang the beef for 10-14 days prior to boning and slicing to provide our customers with well aged, tender beef. Our steaks have been described as being "like butter” to cut through, and having a flavour “incredibly rich and divine”. Our mince is also highly sought after, with our customers constantly telling us it the best mince they have ever had.
At Moreish you can ensure the lamb you are buying is always just that... lamb! You can be assured that we will never compromise on quality, or try to disguise inferior product as a top quality product. Our sizes vary throughout the year depending on where the lamb season is, but they are always lovely lean lambs. They are of the highest quality our butchers have seen anywhere in their 50+ years of experience.
Please note that while the vast majority of our beef and lamb is from Mirawai Farms, there are a few beef cuts (at present Eye fillet, Scotch Fillet and Porterhouse) where we do offer non-organic alternatives. This is simply because the demand for these popular cuts outstrips the supply we can source for organic versions. These products are clearly labelled in the online shop and are supplied by local farms within the Manawatu.
Our wide selection of delicious wild meats is from one of NZ's few MAF approved wild game meat specialists, Premium Game.
All the wild animals are humanely trapped, caught or shot in the wilderness of the Marlborough region before being processed through Premium Game's MAF approved facilities in Blenhiem.
GPS tracking ensures all animals come from areas free of pest control methods such as 1080 poison, and provides tracability.
The quality of their meat shines through in every order we receive, as every week the demand for their delicious product grows. It just goes to show they are onto a good thing!
We make all our own sausages by hand in our butchery and skimp on NOTHING! All the meat going into our sausages is real meat and we don't add any additional fats or fillers. This ensures all our sausages are 90% - 95% meat! Also if you are buying a beef sausage the only meat it will have in it is beef and the same with our lamb sausages. The Moreish special is our only sausage that is a blend of 70% beef and 30% lamb and is one of our most popular flavours!
We then mix our minced meat with different blends of herb & spices creating the sausage mix before filling this mix into natural skins/casings. We don't understand why people would want to eat plastic on the outside of their sausages?!
